New Territories & Outlying Islands
Geoparks, beaches, walled villages and car-free islands
About New Territories & Outlying Islands
Beyond the city, more than 40% of Hong Kong is protected country park. The New Territories offer volcanic rock columns in the UNESCO Global Geopark at Sai Kung, seafood towns, temples and traditional walled villages.
Ferries from Central reach the outlying islands in 30–60 minutes. Lamma and Cheung Chau have no cars — just footpaths, beaches and harbour-side seafood restaurants — making them an easy half-day escape.
